Japan's Assistance to Egypt
Economic Cooperation ( Official
Development Assistance, ODA )
Egypt is currently undergoing active and serious economic and
social development with foreign support and assistance.
JAPAN is providing Official Development Assistance (ODA) to a wide
range of developing countries in various forms. The economic assistance to Egypt
is considerable in terms of its volume and content. Egypt is the ninth largest
recipient of Japanese bilateral aid (based on accumulating total from FY 1969
until FY 2001) and the largest in the Middle East.
JAPAN accords priority to the following areas for assistance to
Egypt. Such priority was apportioned on the basis of policy dialogue between
Japan and Egypt, as well as studies and research on development conditions,
objectives and plans designed by Egypt:
-
Expansion of
agricultural production
-
Development of
human resources
-
Boosting
economic infrastructure
-
Upgrading health
and medical care services, population control and family
planning
-
Improvement of
living environment ( water and sewage systems ) and public
hygiene
JAPAN continues to extend ODA to Egypt and hopes this cooperation
will enhance the friendship between the two peoples and the two
governments, as well as further deepening the understanding
between the two nations.

Since its establishment, the Japan International Cooperation
Agency (JICA) has supported socio-economic and human-resource
development in order to facilitate the autonomous, sustainable
development of developing countries, as one of Japan's Official
Development Assistance (ODA) implementing bodies. JICA is mainly
responsible for implementing technical cooperation for
developing countries.
JICA invites government officials, engineers, and skilled workers
from developing countries to Japan for training in a variety of
fields. To developing countries, JICA dispatches experts with
the skills and knowledge suited to the countries’ needs. It
provides the equipment needed to transfer technology
appropriately and effectively. It also sends various study
groups to draw up development plans for developing countries and
regions.

The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) was established in
1958 as a special public institution to enhance Japanese exports
to the world. Later, as Japan's trade surplus grew to
unprecedented levels, JETRO concentrated on helping foreign
companies enter the Japanese market with its 76 overseas
branches.
JETRO also continues to carry out economic research overseas and
collect extensive information for dissemination to business
circles. JETRO provides a variety of other valuable services and
support as well, including the organization of exhibitions and
