On Sunday, January 19th 2014, Mr. Toshiro Suzuki, Ambassador of Japan
to Egypt, and Mr. Anwar El Sadat, Chairperson of El Sadat Association for Social
Development and Welfare, signed a grant assistance contract for Japanese Grant
Assistance for Grass-Roots Projects at the Ambassador’s residence in Cairo.
The grant assistance amounting to US$103,151 is extended by the Government of
Japan for the purpose of purchasing 10 kidney dialysis machines to be used at
two hospitals in Berket El Sabaa city and Shohada city, Monofeya.
It is worth mentioning that this is the second
time the Government of Japan provides El Sadat Association with kidney dialysis
machines, previously it provided 8 machines to the Central Hospital in Tala
city, Monofeya in October, 2012.
Promotion of health has long been the priority of Japan’s assistance, viewing
health as one of the fundamentals of human security. Japan believes that this
assistance will contribute to the progress of the local communities in Monofeya
and help create a healthy and vibrant population that supports new Egypt.
The grant is extended under the Japanese Government’s Assistance Scheme for
Grassroots and Human Security Projects. This scheme was launched in Egypt in
1994 and around 150 projects have been implemented to date, totaling about US$
6.5 million. In particular, the flexibility and timely manner of the scheme has
been greatly and widely appreciated.
