Grassroots Assistance
Japan Assists Medical Service for Kidney Diseases

On Sunday, March 22nd 2015, Mr.
Takehiro Kagawa, Ambassador of Japan to Egypt, and Mr. Omar Maher Abd El Fattah,
Secretary of the board of El Sabreen Mosque Charity Association in Bahrmos,
signed a grant assistance contract for Japanese Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots
Projects.
The grant assistance amounting to US$51,114 is extended by the Government of
Japan for the purpose of purchasing five kidney dialysis units to equip the
kidney dialysis clinic run by the association in Baharmos village, Giza
governorate, which suffers along with the surrounding area from a significant
lack in medical services, especially the treatment of kidney failure, which
annually causes a large number of deaths in Egypt. The Government of Japan hopes
that this support will help improve the situation of health services in the
rural areas of Egypt, and to provide treatment for a large number of patients.
This grant is extended under the Japanese government’s assistance scheme for
Grassroots and Human Security Projects, which gives support to non-profitable
organizations and NGOs in fields such as health, social care, education,
environment and vocational training. This scheme was launched in Egypt in 1994,
and around 150 projects have been implemented to date, totaling about US$ 7
million.
