Opening Ceremony of the Project for Establishment of
a Unit for the Manufacture of Artificial Limbs and Paralysis Devices Supported
by Japan

On Monday, July 31st 2017, Mr.
Kenichiro Mukai, Minister of Embassy of Japan to Egypt attended the opening
ceremony of the project for establishment of a unit for manufacture of
artificial limbs and paralysis devices. The project was supported by Japan’s
Grant Assistance for Grassroots and Human Security Projects ($90,908). Mr. Magdy
Nagah Qalioubiya Governor Representative; Dr. Isam El-adawi Minister Advisor for
NGOs and International Funding; Mr. Mohamed Elamary Head of Health Committee in
Parliament;Dr. Heba Hagras Member of Women Committee for Special need at
National Women Council, also attended the ceremony.
The project established a manufacturing unit which produces and provides
artificial limbs while employing modern technology. The realization of the
project does not only expand physical capabilities of individuals with physical
difficulties, but also provide them with a wider potentiality as well as hope
for their future path.
During the ceremony, Mr. Mukai paid tribute to the Coptic Evangelical
Organization for Social Services (CEOSS) for its long-standing contributions and
efforts to work in the field of social development. The Embassy of Japan has
previously collaborated with CEOSS in 2000 and 2011 within the same program to
support socially and economically marginalized groups of people. He stressed the
importance of strengthening the tie between Egypt and Japan and expressed his
determination to continue supporting organization’s collective efforts and
wishes that this project would serve as a model case that might be replicated in
other areas in Egypt.
The Japanese Grant Assistance for Grassroots and Human Security Projects is the
scheme which provides support to Non-profit and Non-governmental organizations
in order to improve Basic Human Needs, such as education, health, social care
and environment. This scheme was launched in Egypt in 1994, and around 160
projects have been implemented to date, totaling about US$ 8 million.
