Japan Provides Assistance to Improve a Primary
School in Imbaba, Giza

On Thursday, March 22nd 2018, H.E.
Mr. Takehiro Kagawa, Ambassador of Japan to Egypt and Dr. Ahmed Shawki,
Treasurer of Takatof Association for Development, signed a grant assistance
contract for Japanese Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots and Human Security
Projects.
The grant assistance amounting to US$270,035 is extended by the Government of
Japan to Takatof Association for Development for the purpose of improving
educational environment in a primary school in Imbaba, Giza. The grant will be
utilised to upgrade the physical school facility as well as to provide teachers,
students and communities with various activities and trainings including abacas
program to encourage children’s learning skills.
At the signing ceremony, Ambassador Kagawa and Dr. Shawki shared their view that
the goal of education should not be limited only to acquire academic knowledge
but to enhance one’s creativity and cultivate morality, values and empathy. They
also stressed that providing a safe educational environment, active learning
opportunities and quality educators are the keys to attain such quality
education in Egypt. Lastly, they acknowledged that government and civil society
shall work together in order to seek dynamism and sustainability in social and
educational development of the country.
This grant is extended under the Japanese government’s assistance scheme for
Grassroots and Human Security Projects, which provides support to non-profitable
organizations and NGOs in fields such as health, social care, education,
environment and vocational training. This scheme was launched in Egypt in 1994,
and around 164 projects have been implemented to date, totaling about US$ 8.6
million.
