Japan Assists Project for Empowerment and Employment
Support for Women in Old Cairo

On Thursday, March 22nd 2018, H.E.
Mr. Takehiro Kagawa, Ambassador of Japan to Egypt and Mr. Ali Mokhtar, Chairman
of Gozour Foundation, signed a grant contract for Japanese Grant Assistance for
Grass-Roots and Human Security Projects.
The grant assistance amounting to US$81,993 is extended by the Government of
Japan to the foundation for the purpose of supporting women in marginalized
community in Old Cairo through introducing employment support programs. The
Project is designed to provide various business training programs, which enables
women to gain skills and knowledge that reflect the current market needs of
Egypt.
Japan is committed to support women’s empowerment and to enhance gender equality
worldwide with the belief that creating “a society in which women shine” will
positively influence the world. At the grant contract signing ceremony,
Ambassador Kagawa expressed his respect and appreciation for the foundation’s
long-standing dedication to support marginalized women. Mr. Mokhtar and
Ambassador Kagawa shared the view that proactive civil societies including NGOs
and community organizations are the key to achieve such a goal.
This grant is extended under the Japanese government’s assistance scheme for
Grassroots and Human Security Projects, which provides support to non-profitable
organizations and NGOs in fields such as education, health, social welfare,
environment and vocational training. This scheme was launched in Egypt in 1994,
and 164 projects have been implemented to date, totaling about US$ 8.6 million.
