 Japanese Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects

Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects to Egypt

 

1. From the perspective of supporting the transition period after the Revolution in Egypt January 25th, through supporting poverty reduction & promoting employment, the Embassy of Japan in Egypt has provided Grassroots Assistance (hereinafter referred to as the “GAGP”) for eleven projects (around 920 thousand US dollars in total) since last year, and has strongly supported the projects of the Egyptian NGOs which conduct local-based activities.

 

2. Specifically, in order to reduce poverty and improve the standards of living according to GAGP’s main purpose of supporting Basic Human Needs, the Embassy of Japan in Egypt provided necessary grants (around 370 thousand US dollars in total) for the following five projects, as a direct benefit for local residents in poor, inadequate medical and sanitary environment areas.

A vehicle for mobile clinic is purchased for providing eye care services to the local people of rural areas in Beni Suef and improving eye care environment in the areas.

Wastewater treatment system is organized for improving the sanitary conditions and promoting efficient use of water resources in Senoris, Fayoum.

Improvement of Medical Service in El Beheira

A medical checkup vehicle equipped with medical devices is purchased for the purpose of improving primary healthcare and emergency medical services for rural areas in New Nobareiya city, El Beheira.

Improvement of Kidney Treatment Unit in Tala city, Monofeiya

8 unit of kidney dialysis machines are purchased for the only public general hospital in Tala city, Monofeiya for providing lifelines to patients with kidney failure in the city.

Building Water Supply Network in Ezbet El Haggana

Water supply network connected to residents’ houses & buildings for improving life environment for the local people of Ezbet El Haggana, Cairo.

3. Unemployment, especially of the young people, has become a serious problem in Egypt since the Revolution. The Embassy of Japan in Egypt has focused on “Human Resource Development” (e.g. specialized vocational training & facilities) through giving support in implementing the following five projects (around 550 thousand US dollars in total). These projects will provide vocational training and employment support to 7,000 young unemployed people in total, which considered an enormous contribution in developing the Egyptian economy.

This project is providing vocational training for the unemployed people in Cairo and Upper Egypt.

For increasing employment opportunities of local people and raising their income levels, GAGP program has provided agricultural technical training with agricultural equipment to an agricultural vocational training facility in Dakhla Oasis, New Valley.

Vocational Capacity Building for Bedouins in North Sinai

GAGP program provided various types of vocational training with the necessary equipment, to two NGO located in North Sinai for improving employment environment of young unemployed people of Bedouins.

Supporting Capacity Building of Youth in Sohag

Job counseling, trainings for business skills and skills of launching business, internship, helping of job search and others are provided to students of Sohag university as a contribution in employment support and human resources development.

This project is providing training courses for learning the necessary skills of social development sector, followed by employment support for young people graduated in university. Aiming for improving employment environment of young people in Assuit.

For improving employment environment of young unemployed people in Cairo, we provided equipment for several types of vocational training including nursing care
