Economic Cooperation ( Official Development Assistance, ODA )

Official Development Assistance (ODA)

1. ODA comprises of funding flows that meet the following three conditions.
  • 1) It is provided by the government or by its executive agencies.
  • 2) It is administered with promotion of the economic development and welfare of developing countries as its main objective.
  • 3) It is concessional in character to avoid severe burdens on developing countries and conveys a grant element of at least 25%(GE: an index of the financial terms of assistance. As terms are alleviated, the GE figure rises, reaching 100% in the case of a grant.).

2. ODA consists of grant aid, technical cooperation, subscriptions and contributions to UN agencies and international financial institutions (all defined as grants), and government loans.

3. Egypt is one of the major recipients of Japanese bilateral aid. Japan will continue to extend ODA to Egypt and hopes such cooperation will further enhance the friendship between the two countries and peoples and deepen the mutual understanding.
