Japan Assists Construction of Rehabilitation Center for People with Disabilities in Damietta

 

-The Minister of the Embassy of Japan signed a grant contract with El Ebn El Khas Foundation-

 

 

 

On Sunday, March 24th 2013, Mr. Masami Kinefuchi, Minister of the Embassy of Japan in Egypt and Mr. Muhammad Taher, Chairperson of El Ebn El Khas Foundation signed a grant contract for Japanese Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Projects at the Embassy.

 

The grant assistance amounting to US$ 107,059 is extended by the government of Japan for the purpose of construction of Rehabilitation Center for the people with disabilities in Damietta. This Japanese assistance covers not only the cost of the construction itself with 530 square meters but also some equipment for rehabilitation, education and vocational training such as a blackboard, work tables and an electric saw to be used at the center. This assistance will give a chance to many people with disabilities in the region to receive physical and mental rehabilitation, basic education and vocational training for their future jobs.

 

At the ceremony, the Minister emphasized that Japan had ever assisted the activity of NGOs including the Foundation to provide services with the disabilities technically and financially, and hoped to continue such cooperation as this project.

 

The government of Japan believes that this project will support to improve the quality of life (QOL) of the disabilities by giving better rehabilitation opportunities, which will help reducing the burden on their families and themselves.

 

The grant was extended under the Japanese Government’s Assistance Scheme for Grassroots and Human Security Projects. This Scheme was launched in Egypt in 1994 and since then approximately 150 projects have already been implemented, totaling over 5.5 million dollars. The flexibility and timely manner of this scheme has in particular been greatly and widely appreciated.
