-The Minister of the Embassy of Japan signed a grant contract with New Fostat
Association-

On Sunday, March 24th
2013, Mr. Masami Kinefuchi, Minister of the Embassy of Japan in Egypt and Ms.
Hanan Mohammad, Executive Director of New Fostat Association for Local Community
Development, signed a grant contract for Japanese Grant Assistance for
Grass-Roots Projects at the Embassy.
The grant
assistance amounting to US$ 60,163 is extended by the government of Japan for
the purpose of establishing Day Reception Center in Old Cairo for street
children. This assistance will contribute to giving chances to receive basic
education and medical checkup to many children who have been away from their
family and forced to live on the street.
At the ceremony,
the Minister said that Egypt had big potentials because of a high birth rate and
assisting children through this project led to not only the welfare of them but
also the strength of Egypt.
This is the 5th
project from the government of Japan in the field of assistance to the street
children in Egypt. The government of Japan believes that this support will
significantly improve the welfare and quality of life of street children, the
number of those who has increased after the January 25th Revolution.
The grant was
extended under the Japanese Government’s Assistance Scheme for Grassroots and
Human Security Projects. This Scheme was launched in Egypt in 1994 and since
then approximately 150 projects have already been implemented, totaling over 5.5
million dollars. The flexibility and timely manner of this scheme has in
particular been greatly and widely appreciated.
