Ebtisam Ahmed, Chairperson of The Women’s Health Improvement Association Kafr
Shukr Branch signed a grant contract for Japanese Grant Assistance for
Grass-Roots Projects at the Embassy.
The grant
assistance amounting to US$ 52,747 is extended by the government of Japan for
the purpose of purchasing medical equipment, such as “Ultrasound System”, “Fetal
Actocardiograph” and “Doppler Fetus Detector”. This assistance was expected to
enhance the capacity of the clinic which is managed by The Women’s Health
Improvement Association Kafr Shukr Branch with a view to improving the
specialized services for the internal medicine to treat mother and child
diseases.
At the ceremony,
the Minister said that it was expected to implement successfully this project
which provided the poor with medical care and expand the range of their
activities.
The government of
Japan believes that this project will help reduce the high maternal and child
mortality in Qaliyubiya, and also give the mothers and the newborn children not
only a chance to receive medical and health care services but also a hope for
better and healthier future.
The grant was
extended under the Japanese Government’s Assistance Scheme for Grassroots and
Human Security Projects. This Scheme was launched in Egypt in 1994 and since
then approximately 150 projects have already been implemented, totaling over 5.5
million dollars. The flexibility and timely manner of this scheme has in
particular been greatly and widely appreciated.
