Japan assists Primary Health Care in Sadat City

On Wednesday, December 1, Ambassador Norihiro OKUDA of Japan attended the opening ceremony of Harpur Memorial Hospital in Sadat City, Monofeya, hosted by Bishop MOUNEER the Episcopal/Anglican Diocese of Egypt. Ambassadors of UK, and Singapore, the deputy of Grand Mufti of Egypt and other donors also attended the ceremony.

Equipped with outpatient and inpatient units, including operation and intensive-care facilities, the new hospital is expected to provide over 120,000 citizens in Sadat City with the service of primary health care and emergency first aid. This hospital will be the first one to operate in Sadat City.

Dozens of international organizations, churches, and embassies have assisted the establishment of the hospital. The Embassy of Japan in Egypt has supported this project with US$ 86,195 for establishing the primary health care unit since its beginning of construction in 2007.

This grant is extended under the Japanese Government’s Assistance Scheme for Grassroots and Human Security Projects. This scheme was launched in Egypt in 1994, and since then 129 projects totaling over US$ 5 million have been implemented.
