5th JEN OPEN SALON
Rice Culture
in Japan
On May 26,
2011,the 5th JEN Open Salon under the theme “Rice
Culture in Japan” was held at Multipurpose Hall at the Embassy
of Japan in Maadi, Egypt.
At
the beginning of the event, Ambassador Norihiko Okuda expressed
his deep appreciation to the participants for their support and
solidarity with the people of Japan, and participants had a
moment of silence for the victims of the earthquake.
During the event, members of JEN Youth presented their
experiences of rice culture in Japan.
Subsequently, JICA Alumni and experts gave lecture on Japan’s
technical cooperation for rice production in Egypt, in addition
to a demonstration of making rice balls by the Japan Foundation
Cairo Office. Participants enjoyed this event in a very friendly
atmosphere.
At the reception
after the event, participants tasted various kinds of rice balls
and exchanged opinions.
There were many
comments like “I learned how deeply rice is related to Japanese
culture and Japanese peoples’ lives”, and “rice is a very
important food to Japanese”, “Thanks to lectures of JICA Alumni,
I could learn that rice production in Egypt has been improved as
a result of technical cooperation from Japan”.
