Japan Supports Children with Special Needs in
Hadeyek El Koba, Cairo

On March 20th of 2019, Mr. Masaki
Noke, Ambassador of Japan to Egypt and Mr. Mohamed Abdel Rahman, Deputy Chief
Executive Officer of Misr El Kheir Foundation, signed a Grant Contract for
Japanese Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots and Human Security Projects.
The grant assistance amounting to US$89,075 is extended by the Government of
Japan to Foundation for the purpose of improving physical and educational
environment of “Kayan Society”, a rehabilitation and education center for
children with special needs. Through the project, Misr El Kheir will refurbish
the building of Kayan Society to increase its capacity from 180 to 400 children
and improve the safety standard. The project also focuses on capacity building
of Kayan Society’s staff and involvement of parents of beneficiary children in
rehabilitation and education programs which will lead to quality services and
community-based approach for social inclusion.
At the grant contract signing ceremony, Ambassador Noke highlighted that social
inclusion is a global issue and civil society is playing a pivotal role to
support people with special needs in Egypt. Mr. Mohamed Abdel Rahman appreciated
Japan’s initiative to support the roles of civil societies in social
development. Dr. Ayman Tantawy, the Head of Kayan Society, expressed gratitude
for sincere contribution from Japanese people to this project, and pledged to
make its best effort to provide better services to the community.
This grant is extended under the Japanese government’s assistance scheme of the
“Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots and Human Security Projects” which provides
direct support to non-profitable organizations including NGOs in fields such as
health, social care, education, environment, vocational training, and
empowerment of women. Under this scheme, Japan has supported 167 projects since
1994 to date in Egypt.
