 Human Exchange and Dialogue Program ~ Ship for World Youth (SWY) Program

 

1. The 21th Ship for World Youth Program – SWY 2009(SWY21)

2. Outline

The participants are from Japan and about 13 other countries. There are 120 Japanese youths and 11 youths from each other country. The participating countries are changed every year, except Japan. They spend about 50 days together on board the ship and partake in a variety of activities to learn more and widen their global views. Some of the activities are:

 

  • Visiting youth-related, cultural and industrial facilities in Japan

  • Home-stay in Japan

  • Seminars, discussions

  • Introduction to each country

  • Sports and other recreational activities

  • Courtesy calls to the visiting countries

Participating youths are from:

Japan, Australia, Canada, Republic of Chile, Arab Republic of Egypt, Republic of the Fiji Islands, United Mexican States, Sultanate of Oman, Russian Federation, Republic of Seychelles, Solomon Islands, Kingdom of Tonga, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Republic of Yemen (*Visiting countries)

 


3. Purpose


The purpose of this program is to foster a spirit of international cooperation and competence and to put it into practice. It is also to promote friendship and mutual understanding between the youth of Japan and those of various other parts of the world, to broaden their international perspective through partaking in exchange activities on board the ship and also during their stays in the countries to be visited. The purpose is also to study and discuss common subjects from the global viewpoint.
