During the meeting before the signature, H.E. Dr. Rania Al-Mashat highly valued the economic cooperation Japan has extended to Egypt thus far and expressed her appreciation for this grant assistance. Ambassador NOKE and H.E. Dr. Al-Mashat shared the view that they would deepen the bilateral cooperation for the further development of the Japan-Egypt relationship.
The Government of Japan sees it is essential to tackle the current crisis based on the principle of “leaving no one behind,” one of the core ideas of the SDGs Agenda 2030, and the concept of “human security,” which focuses on the protection and empowerment of individuals, and work towards achieving universal health coverage (UHC). Egypt and Japan are strong partners in achieving UHC with long history of cooperation in the health sector, exemplified by the construction of Cairo University Specialized Pediatric Hospital, called “Japanese hospital,” and “Japan-Egypt Cooperation Initiative in the Health Care Sector” announced on the occasion of the visit by H.E. President El Sisi to Japan in 2016. Japan will continue to work together with Egypt in the health sector under the principles of “human security” and SDGs, and overcome together this crisis of the century.
