Courtesy call to H.E. Admiral. Osama Rabie, the Chairman of Suez Canal Authority, with Japanese Delegation

   On April 11, 2021, Mr. NOKE Masaki, Ambassador of Japan to Egypt, and Mr. SAITO Hideaki, Deputy Director-General for Engineering Affairs of Maritime Bureau at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) of Japan, paid a courtesy call to H.E. Admiral. Osama Rabie, the Chairman of Suez Canal Authority, in order to express appreciation to Egyptian Government for its great efforts for re-floating and dislodging M/V EVER GIVEN as well as to exchange views on strengthening bilateral cooperation.
 
   During the courtesy call, Ambassador Noke mentioned that the Suez Canal is a very important sea lane for maritime logistics in the world and praised the Suez Canal Authority’s efforts for early resumption of vessel passage on the Canal. Mr. Saito expressed his gratitude to the Authority for taking great works day and night for M/V EVER GIVEN to be re-floated and dislodged. He also remarked that thanks to Authority’s efforts, the grounding of the ship was dislodged, which was a very appreciated result for Japanese ship owners as well as Japanese shipping industry, which accounts for 7% of the vessels passing through the Suez Canal. In response to their remarks, the H.E. Admiral. Rabie expressed appreciation for their courtesy visit, and explained details of this accident and their emergency work for the early resumption. Also he mentioned that he is proud of the Authority’s hard work against this complicated crisis.
 
   In addition, Mr. Saito mentioned that although this accident was unfortunate, the friendly relationship between Japan and Egypt is unwavering, and that he is convinced that this gives another opportunity to strengthen relationship between the two countries, and exchange views on strengthening bilateral cooperation.  
 
   Finally, Ambassador Noke expressed his wish that good and long-term relationship between the Embassy and the Authority will continue to be maintained and strengthened.
