Japan Provides Assistance for Intellectual Education Primary School in Abdeen, Cairo

On Tuesday, March 21, 2023, H.E. Mr. OKA Hiroshi, Ambassador of Japan to Egypt, and Mr. Ibrahim Abdelrady, Chairman of the Association of Popular Participation, signed a grant contract for the Japanese Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Project.
The grant assistance amounting to US$64,543 is extended by the Embassy of Japan to the Association of Popular Participation for the purpose of improving educational environment of El Wehda El Arabia Primary School for Intellectual Education located in Abdeen, Cairo. Through this project, the organization will renovate the school building, schoolyard, fences and sanitation falilities as well as provide educational materials and equipment including physical fitness machines for the children studying there, which will enable the school to accept 200 students almost tripled from the current capacity of 76.
This is the second collaboration between the Embassy of Japan and the Association of Popular Participation in the field of education, after the school renovation project in Sayeda Zeinab in 2014.
During the ceremony, Mr. Abdelrady expressed his sincere appreciation to Japan’s assistance to support improvement of the school environment for students with special needs. Ambassador Oka highlighted that the Embassy of Japan is keen to enhance contribution to the human security of Egyptian people in partnership with the Egyptian civil society, not only in the education sector, but also in a wide range of sectors including special needs support, health, water/sanitation and women empowerment.
This project comes within the framework of the Japanese grant program “Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects,” which provides, under the framework between the Japanese and Egyptian governments, direct and small-scale financial support to non-profit organizations including NGOs in various fields such as education, health, inclusion of persons with special needs, vocational training, women empowerment, and environment. Japan has extended approximately US$10 million in Egypt since 1994, supporting 176 projects and hope to receive many application for new projects.
