The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) dispatched Renewable Energy, Hydrogen and Water Infrastructure Business Delegation from September 23rd to 26th

JETRO dispatched the business mission from 23rd to 26th of September, consisting of 23 Japanese companies and government agencies including engineering, trading companies, facilities and equipment manufacturers, electric power, infrastructure development, and finance and insurance.
On the 23rd, the mission started their program with "Egypt-Japan Green Energy & Water Management Seminar" where the members of the delegation presented their green energy technology and solution to the Egyptian participants. Following the seminar, B to B exchanges took place with a participation of around 100 representatives of leading Egyptian companies/organizations.
In the afternoon, the delegation paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Dr. Moustafa Madbouly, Prime Minister in Egypt in the presence of H.E. Dr. Mahmoud Moustafa Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, H.E. Mr. Hassan El-Khatib, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, and H.E. Mr. Karim Badawy, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources. Prime Minister Madbouly emphasized his desire to strengthen cooperation with Japan in various fields and committed to provide all possible support to attract investment from Japan. The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of learning from the experience and know-how of Japanese companies.
H.E. Mr. OKA Hiroshi, Ambassador of Japan to Egypt emphasized that bilateral relations have further improved since the upgrading of the bilateral relations to "Strategic Partnership" last year. He also expressed his hope that the Tokyo International Conference on African Development 9 (TICAD 9), which will be held in Tokyo next year, will be an opportunity to create new business opportunities.
The head of the delegation, Mr. MAEKAWA Nobutaka, Executive Vice President of JETRO stressed that JETRO will enhance cooperation between the two countries towards creating a decarbonized society by utilizing technological expertise of Japanese companies in the efficient use of energy and the hydrogen.
On the 24th, the delegation visited the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, and Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, where they had discussions with H.E. Mr. Hossam Heiba, President of GAFI, Eng. Sabah Mashaly, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, and others on expansion of business opportunities, particularly in the areas of renewable energy and hydrogen.
On the 25th, the delegation visited the General Authority of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), where H.E. Mr. Walid Gamal El-Dein, Chairman of the Authority stressed its openness to partnerships with various parties to localize the green fuel industry and meet the global needs of this new energy.
On the 26th, the delegation met with H.E. Mr. Sherif Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities.
Minister Sherbiny expressed his hope to cooperate in areas such as seawater desalination in a manner that would benefit both countries by making maximum use of Japan's experience.
In the afternoon, the delegation visited Ministry of Industry and Transport and discussed cooperation between the two countries, especially in the field of transportation, while introducing Japanese companies' efforts to develop renewable energy and hydrogen to H.E. Amb. Ahmed Rizk, Advisor to the Minister for International Cooperation and others.
During the last mission, the delegation visited the New Cairo Wastewater Treatment Plant operated by Orasquaria which Orascom joint ventured with Spanish Aqualia, the first public and private partnership (PPP) project in Egypt for a water treatment infrastructure.
