The Embassy of Japan is seeking a highly professional and service-oriented individual for the position of Butler at the Ambassador's Residence.
 
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the Residence, providing high-quality hospitality services, and supervising the residence support team. The position requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to coordinate effectively with embassy staff in support of official functions and events.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee the daily operation of the Ambassador's Residence.
  • Lead, supervise, and coordinate the work of residence staff to ensure high standards of cleanliness, hospitality, and service.
  • Communicate with embassy officials, administrative staff, and secretaries regarding official receptions, dinners, meetings, and other residence events.
  • Coordinate preparations for official functions, including event setup, guest reception, table arrangements, and service requirements.
  • Plan and coordinate procurement of household supplies, food, beverages, and other residence-related purchases in accordance with embassy procedures.
  • Serve food and beverages professionally during official lunches, dinners, receptions, and diplomatic events.
  • Ensure proper care, maintenance, and inventory control of residence furnishings, equipment, tableware, and hospitality supplies.
  • Welcome guests and provide courteous, discreet, and professional service at all times.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all official and private matters related to the Ambassador, guests, and embassy activities.
  • Assist with other residence management and hospitality duties as required.
 
 
 
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Proven experience as a Butler, Residence Manager, Hospitality Supervisor, or in a similar hospitality position.
  • Experience in working in diplomatic residences, embassies, international organizations, luxury hotels, private households, or executive residences is highly desirable.
  • Experience in organizing and servicing formal dinners, receptions, and VIP events.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work professionally with diplomats, senior officials, and distinguished guests.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and outside normal working hours when required.
  • Good command of English.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure situations.
