Japan Provided Water Purification Stations in Al Ayyat, Giza Governorate through “KUSANONE” grant program

On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, His Excellency Mr. IWAI Fumio, Ambassador of Japan to Egypt, and Dr. Zeinab Mekkey, Board head of Future Girls Association for Society Development, witnessed the successful completion of the Japanese “KUSANONE” project (Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects). This project, implemented by Future Girls Association for Society Development in the grant amount of approximately US$ 60,000, provides an access to safe purified water in Al Ayyat, Giza Governorate by establishing 2 water purification stations and installing 4 tricycles.
This project contributes to reducing health risks by providing the community with access to safe and secure water. The water stations are now able to supply 24,000 liters of purified water per day, reaching approximately 2,400 families in Al Ayyat.
During the signing ceremony, Ambassador Iwai expressed his pleasure at the successful completion of the project and his appreciation for Future Girls Association Development’s efforts in making it a reality.
"These new water purification stations will provide clean water to thousands of people, significantly improving their health and well-being," Dr. Mekky said. "We are incredibly grateful for the support of the Japanese government and the "KUSANONE" program. Studies show that 69% of residents in this area suffer from kidney and intestinal diseases due to impure water. These new stations will make a real difference in the lives of the people here, providing a sustainable source of clean water for years to come, benefiting generations to come."
The “KUSANONE” project is an important part of Japan’s development cooperation efforts, providing targeted financial support to non-profit organizations, including NGOs, to address local community needs. Since its inception in 1994, Japan has contributed over USD 11 million to fund 181 projects in Egypt, in collaboration with 130 NGOs. These projects span key sectors such as education, healthcare, water and sanitation, vocational training, women’s empowerment, and support for individuals with special needs.
The Embassy of Japan encourages NGOs to submit applications for new projects under the “KUSANONE” framework. For more information, please visit the Embassy’s website at:
