On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, H.E. Mr. IWAI Fumio, Ambassador of Japan to Egypt, Mr. Nady Kamel Youssef, Executive Director of New Horizon Association for Social Development, Eng. Margaret Sarofim, Deputy Minister of Social Solidarity, and Mr. Mohamed Neama Kegk, Deputy Governor of New Valley, witnessed the successful completion of the Japanese “KUSANONE” program (Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects). This project, implemented by New Horizon Association for Social Development in the grant amount of US$ 55,240, increases income and employment opportunities in the region and improves access to locally produced dairy products, by providing livestock, barns as well as dairy production facilities and tools.

This project has contributed not only to increasing income and employment opportunities, but also to reducing dependence on costly imported dairy products, improving access to locally produced dairy products, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices through the recycling of livestock waste into organic fertilizer. This achievement reflects the tireless efforts of the Association and the valuable support of the local government.

During the completion ceremony, Ambassador Iwai expressed his pleasure at the successful completion of the project and his appreciation for New Horizon Association for Social Development’s efforts in making it a reality. “The development cooperation between Japan and Egypt has spanned over 70 years. I am honored and happy to see Japan's footprints left all over Egypt, such as Grand Egyptian Museum, Egypt-Japan School, Cairo Metro Line, Borg El Arab International Airport, and Japanese Hospital (Cairo University Pediatric Hospital), improving the quality of life for the Egyptian people. However, Japan's commitment to Egypt is not limited to landmark national projects. Japan equally cares about the social welfare of people on the ground who truly need support.” Ambassador Iwai said.

"I am very grateful for the support of the Governor of New Valley, the Ministry of Social Solidarity, and the Embassy of Japan," said Mr. Nady Kamel Youssef, Executive Director of New Horizon Association for Social Development. "The opening of the Dairy Production Training Center marks an important step in supporting economic development and enabling young people and small-scale farmers to acquire practical skills that create real opportunities for work and production."

Eng. Margaret Sarofim, Deputy Minister of Social Solidarity, said: "I am very pleased to visit New Valley Governorate on this occasion. The Embassy of Japan and the Ministry of Social Solidarity have built a strong cooperative relationship over many years, and I am particularly grateful for their support regarding early childhood education." She also expressed her intention to support the agricultural sector and strengthen food security by encouraging the expansion of strategic crop cultivation and supporting small-scale farmers.

Mr. Mohamed Neama Kegk, attending on behalf of H.E. Mrs. Hanan Magdy, Governor of New Valley, stated, "Today's ties between Japan and New Valley Governorate are not just cooperation, but a tangible success story that strengthens the path of sustainable development within our governorate." He also conveyed the Governor's great pleasure at the successful completion of the project.

The “KUSANONE” program is an important part of Japan’s development cooperation efforts, providing targeted financial support directly to NGOs and non-profit organizations to address local community needs. Since its inception in 1994, Japan has contributed more than US$ 11 million to fund 184 projects in Egypt. These projects span key sectors such as education, healthcare, water and sanitation, vocational training, women’s empowerment, and support for individuals with special needs.

The Embassy of Japan encourages NGOs to apply for new projects under the “KUSANONE” program. For more information, please visit the Embassy’s website at:
